And you thought this day would never happen! I’m of course talking about Lightroom’s GPU support. It allows us to have much more responsive processing, the sliders respond quite instantly to new values. But wait, there’s more. LR6 also has some new API calls for plugins to use – unfortunately it is yet undocumented. I … Continue reading Lightroom 6 with MIDI →
This document describes the process of setting up Novation Nocturn controller with a MIDI mapping that is suitable for use in Lightroom. Nocturn is not a native MIDI controller, but it’s Automap driver software implements MIDI ports. This means that Automap has to be running at all times, otherwise the Automap MIDI port is not … Continue reading Setting up Novation Nocturn for Lightroom →
Someone asked what values exactly is The Fader scaling, and what’s not being faded from preset into another. In short, all the Lightroom’s numeric sliders I could think of are linearly interpolated between the current image settings and the chosen preset, but only if the preset sets new values for that value. This way, you … Continue reading The Fader, Lightroom plugin API and Camera RAW settings →
New Knobroom version for LR4 is progressing steadily, and I’ve now reached the point that is sensible to create some UI elements as well. Except that Lightroom SDK is notoriously bad with growing UI elements. And if you’ve used the previous LR3 release, you might have noticed that creating lots of pulldown menus isn’t particularly … Continue reading UI draft for MIDI Mapping →
Sean McCormack has created a video of Knobroom used with a Korg nanoKontrol. It has non-motorized slides and knobs, so when adjusting a new picture, you first have to slide to old value, then the slider will start controlling the new value. (I think that is what I saw on the video. That’s how world … Continue reading Knobroom and Korg nanoKontrol →
First the good news. Adobe Lightroom 3.2 update is out. Bad news, the update wizard conflicts with Knobroom’s startup, meaning that both update dialog and Knobroom start dialog freeze and you have to kill the Lightroom task to solve it. Workaround is to temporarily rename Knobroom.lrplugin folder, run the update and then rename directory back. … Continue reading Update bug →
As said earlier, I have only 8 knobs in my MIDI controller, so not all of the controls in Lightroom are directly available. Novation’s software provides several pages of controls, but when the controls are changed, it becomes very hard to remember which one is which. For next release, I am planning to include on-screen … Continue reading Growl On-Screen Notifications →

I was estimating that version 0.1 would be in release form shortly after June, but it looks like it could still need some more work, and I’ve spent my time mostly on other projects. Biggest issue is with life cycle, the plugin interface provided by Lightroom is very limited, so the actual MIDI input is … Continue reading Slightly behind 🙂 →
Known issues Fails to start if plugin path contains spaces (thanks to Alistair Graham for pointing this out) Creates excessive amounts of .lrtemplate files into trash. Lightroom stores plugin develop settings in files and when updating it, it moves the old file to trashcan. Just empty trashcan to get rid of these. Creates excessive amounts … Continue reading Support →
